While most computers will automatically open up ebook files simply clicking on the file, it is sometimes necessary to download an ebook-reader app from the internet. An ebook reader is just like any other ‘app’.

To read EPUB files, download one of the following ebook reader apps. EPUB files have the extension .epub.

To view KINDLE files, download the Kindle App. Kindle ebooks have the file extension ‘.mobi’ or ‘kf8’.

In a nutshell, Amazon promotes and sells Kindle ebooks. Most everywhere else uses EPUB ebooks (including iBooks (Apple), Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc). Visit our Understanding E-books page for more.
